The Island Peak trek, also known as “Imja Tse,” is one of the most exciting and adrenaline pumping adventures in Nepal. This peak is an extension of the ridge descending from the south of Lhotse, the world’s fourth-highest mountain (approximately 8,516 metres). The trek is recommended for experienced trekkers with prior experience in high-altitude trekking. There are intersections where you’ll need to cross using ropes.
Team Wanderers will provide you all the necessary technical equipment and conduct training sessions a few days in advance, before the climb. Although no prior technical mountaineering experience is required, the trek is graded as quite challenging. The steep headwall leading to the final path is physically and mentally demanding. The 2015 earthquake made this section even tougher, so favourable weather conditions are essential. To account for weather-related delays, an extra day is included in our itinerary.
The Island Peak trek route is linked to the Everest Base Camp, which provides ample time to adjust to the conditions. After reaching Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar, you shall be physically prepared to take on the mighty Island Peak summit.
The weather plays a crucial role in every successful Island Peak summit, so it’s important to cease an attempt during the ideal season. The best times for this trek are in the months of March to May, in the spring and September to November in the autumn. From the summit, you’ll be honoured with the stunning views of Lhotse, Mera Peak, and Ama Dablam.
It’s gonna be a long expedition, a thrilling one in fact. So, we have created a day-to-day itinerary. Pack up, your much awaited adventure awaits!
