About the Zanskar Valley Trek

The Zanskar Valley Trek is a challenging yet rewarding adventure that takes you through some of the most remote and picturesque regions of Ladakh. This trek covers a total distance of approximately 149 km, reaching altitudes as high as 5,009 meters at Singge La. The journey is not only about trekking but also about experiencing the rich culture of Zanskar, visiting ancient monasteries, and crossing high mountain passes that offer panoramic views of the rugged landscape.

Tour Plan

Day 01 & 02 Arrival in Leh and Acclimatization

Land in Leh and spend the first two days acclimatizing to the high altitude. Explore the local market, Thiksey Monastery, Shey Palace, and Leh Palace.

Day 03 Drive from Leh to Kargil

Enjoy a scenic 5-hour drive from Leh to Kargil, covering a distance of about 230 km. Stay overnight in Kargil.

Day 04 Drive from Kargil to Padum

Continue the journey with a 5.5-hour drive from Kargil to Padum, covering 240 km. Stay overnight in a homestay in Padum.

Day 05 Trek from Padum to Karsha

Begin the trek with a 12 km journey from Padum to Karsha. Visit Karsha Monastery and Pepiting Monastery.

Day 06 Trek from Karsha to Pishu

Trek along the scenic Zanskar River to the village of Pishu. This 5-hour trek covers a distance of approximately 16 km.

Day 07 Trek from Pishu to Hanumil

Continue the trek to Hanumil, enjoying the beautiful camping ground along the Zanskar River. This 5-hour trek covers around 17 km.

Day 08 Trek from Hanumil to Purfi La to Snertse

Trek through flat terrain before a steep ascent to Purfi La (3600 meters), then descend to Snertse. Total trek time is about 6 hours.

Day 09 Trek from Snertse to Hanuma La to Lingshed

A long day with a gradual ascent to Hanuma La, followed by a descent to Lingshed. The 7-8 hour trek offers stunning views from the top of Hanuma La.

Day 10 Trek from Lingshed to Singge La Campsite

Ascend gradually to Netuke La and descend through villages to the campsite at Singge La. This 7-8 hour trek is tiring but offers incredible views.

Day 11 Trek from Singge La Campsite to Singge La to Photoksar

Cross the highest pass of the trek, Singge La (5009 meters), then descend to Photoksar. The trek takes around 7-8 hours.

Day 12 Trek from Photoksar to Sirsir La to Hanupatta

A 7-hour trek through steep ascents and gradual descents brings you to Hanupatta via Sirsir La.

Day 13 Trek from Hanupatta to Wanla

A 6-hour trek takes you to Wanla, famous for its small monastery. The trail passes through Panjila Pass before descending to Wanla.

Day 14 Trek from Wanla to Lamayuru and Drive to Leh

A 5-hour trek to Lamayuru Monastery, where we will explore the ancient murals and paintings, followed by a drive back to Leh.

Included/Excluded

  • Meals: All meals on the trek, plus breakfast and dinner while in Leh.
  • Accommodation: 2 nights in Leh before the trek, 1 night after the trek in a hotel, and camping on double/triple sharing basis during the trek.
  • Transport: Drive from Leh to Kargil, Padum, and back to Leh from Lamayuru.
  • Guides: A certified wilderness first aid responder and experienced trek leader, plus local guides.
  • Equipment: Clean sleeping bags, camping mattresses, and toilet tents.
  • Safety: First aid medical kit, oxygen cylinder with oximeter for daily health check-ups.
  • Permits: All necessary trekking permits and fees.
  • 5% GST on the trek fee
  • Lunch on acclimatization days.
  • Personal expenses like tips, phone calls, laundry, etc.
  • Porter/mule charges for carrying personal luggage.
  • Any unforeseen costs due to weather, landslides, or other disruptions.
  • Medical insurance, alcohol, beverages, and any camera charges.
